Antonio Enrico Bartoli


Antonio has been Ambassador of Italy to Georgia until 2020. Former head of press, cultural and public affairs at the Italian Embassy in Washington DC. In 2013, he coordinated the “Year of Italian culture in the U.S.” (300 events in 60 American cities). Seconded for one year at the U.S. State Department, he was the Regional Economics Officer in the Near Eastern Affairs Bureau (Middle East and North Africa), in the aftermath of the Arab Spring. At the Embassy of Italy in Bejing he served as Cultural Counselor (2004-2006) coordinating the Year of Italy in China, and Political Counselor (2007-2008), watching closely Chinese domestic and foreign policy. In his last tour in Rome (2008-2011), he served on the Italian Foreign Minister’s staff, in charge of Parliamentary relations. In his previous tour in Rome (1997-2000), he had served in the Personnel Department, to then become the deputy Chief of Staff of the Undersecretary of State covering the UN, Middle East, and Asia. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, he had been working as a journalist from 1991 to 1997. After a master’s degree in Economics at LUISS University of Rome, he also worked with Alitalia, Italy’s flagship airline, starting with a McKinsey project to redesign the company’s structure, and later becoming special assistant to the marketing director. With his wife Ester, he has five daughters.
